There are three basic colors of a
Maduro Cigar -
Colorado Maduro, which is a dark brown and the lightest of the three. These
wrappers are sun-ripened and particularly associated with Honduran or Cuban
grown tobacco. It is found on some of the fullest flavored cigars in the world.
Maduro a very dark brown, is also sometimes specified as SMS or Spanish Market
Selection because of Spain's love for dark, full-bodied cigars.
Oscuro, an almost black wrapper, which is also known as Double Maduro or Maduro
Maduro. Double Maduro & Maduro Maduro cigars, refer to their color and not that
the cigar is wrapped in two maduro wrappers or a binder combo.
Ordinarily, light wrappers add a bit of dryness, while dark wrappers add a touch of sweetness.
The wrapper contributes
about 40% of the flavor, while the filler and binder contributes to 60%.
Generally, Maduro cigars are stronger in flavor than the same
cigar in a lighter wrapper, like a Claro, but this does not apply to all cigars.
